Visa Destinations Thailand Puts Song Wat on the Map as a Must-Visit Cultural District

05/29/2026

Visa is redefining how travellers experience Bangkok through the “Feel So Thai at Song Wat with Visa”, an on-the-ground activation under the Visa Destinations Thailand programme that brings one of the city’s most distinctive heritage neighbourhoods to life through modern, lifestyle-led experiences.

Developed in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the initiative reflects Visa’s focus on helping travellers move around with ease, pay with confidence, and discover local culture more naturally. With its riverside warehouses, historic shophouses and growing creative scene, Song Wat offers a walkable district where visitors can explore on foot and connect with local businesses along the way.

At the heart of the experience is Vee, Visa’s brand icon, brought to life locally as “Nong Vee”, Visa’s Chief Thai Ambassador, designed as a playful, local guide who brings the spirit of Thai exploration to life. Appearing across different touchpoints in Song Wat, Nong Vee represents the many sides of Thai culture, from food and language to everyday lifestyle and local traditions. Through these moments, Nong Vee encourages travellers to explore the district more naturally, discover hidden gems, and engage more deeply with the local community. The character reflects Visa’s role in making travel feel simple, intuitive and connected, helping visitors move, pay, and experience Thailand with ease.

Once known primarily as a historic trading area, Song Wat has evolved into a vibrant neighbourhood of cafés, galleries and independent businesses. Through Visa’s global payment network and collaboration with local merchants, digital payments are becoming more widely accepted across the district, making it easier for travellers to enjoy dining, retail and lifestyle experiences without relying on cash. For merchants, broader payment acceptance can help simplify transactions and welcome more international visitors who prefer to pay digitally.

Feel so Thai at Song Wat: Bringing Visa Destinations to Life

Feel So Thai at Song Wat brings Visa Destinations Thailand into the real world, transforming it into something tangible and enjoyable through thoughtfully curated experiences. Visitors are invited to discover Song Wat in a way that is immersive yet approachable, with a distinctly Thai sense of warmth and friendliness. Visa cardholders can begin their journey through dining and shopping, while receiving a Visa Journal, your personal guide to explore participating merchants, collect stamps, and track your experience. By collecting both stamps and receipts, visitors can redeem exclusive rewards at the Visa Lounge located at Soul Songwat.

The journey begins at the Visa Lounge at Soul Song Wat, which serves as the official check-in point for visitors. From here, guests are introduced to the experience before continuing to IWannaBangkok, a well-known check-in landmark. The walk offers a snapshot of Song Wat’s heritage, creative evolution, and emerging identity as a cultural destination.

Visitors then stop at Arteasia Desserts & Café, a hidden café set within a 109‑year‑old historic building, showcasing how the district blends old‑world charm with contemporary lifestyle experiences.

The experience concludes at PLAY Art House, where guests explore an art installation by contemporary artist Mr. P, created in collaboration with Visa, presented by Mr. Satit Kalawantavanich, the installation highlights the connection between art, movement, and modern living, mirroring how creativity and everyday experiences come together across Song Wat.

Celebrating Song Wat’s Standout Dining and Lifestyle Scene

Visa is also spotlighting a curated selection of standout dining and lifestyle venues across Song Wat, including Lost in Song Wat, Hor Fun, BARBON, alongside artisanal cafés and lifestyle brands throughout the district such as LERT and Onest at Song Wat. Together, these venues reflect Song Wat’s vibrant food and creative scene, giving visitors clear entry points into where to eat, unwind, and explore, while supporting the local businesses that define the neighbourhood’s character.

From today until 30 June 2026, visitors are invited to discover Song Wat along with Visa Destinations Thailand. From hidden cafés and creative spaces to heritage architecture and street-level discoveries, the district offers a fresh and distinctly local way to experience Bangkok. Travellers and locals alike are encouraged to visit during this period and look out for more experiences from Visa throughout the year as the programme continues to spotlight cultural destinations across Thailand.
